INTRODUCTION

In 1987 a specifically designed Archive was built in order to protect the very valuable documentary material pertaining to the Waitaki District.  The Archive actively collects material relevant to its own area, although this is supplemented with data from national and international sources eg microfiche and books.

Presently the Museum and Archive holds approximately 13,700 historic objects, 8,100 maps and plans, 610,000 photographic images and 842 metres of archives.
