The Museum possesses an important collection pertaining to and issued by the Oamaru Post Office and the wider Oamaru Postal District. The majority of items, and certainly the most interesting are the post marks from the numerous post offices and bureaux within North Otago. There are, however, special date stamps, permits, commemorative postcards and a varied range of post and telegraph miscellanea, dating from 1858 to the early 1990’s
Over seven thousand of the more interesting images,
including glass plate negatives have been fully catalogued and scanned onto
an easy to use database. Copies are readily available.
